Motherhood is a wonderful gift for any woman. It takes 9 months (around 40 weeks) for a baby to grow inside a woman’s body. The time between conception and birth is known as the gestation period. When one or more babies exit the uterus at the end of the pregnancy, it is known as childbirth/labour/delivery.
When a full-term newborn is delivered via the vagina without any use of forceps or vacuum for assistance, it is known as natural or normal delivery. Vaginal deliveries can be conducted not only in hospitals but also at birthing centers since they require no external medical interventions. Cesarean delivery or C-section delivery, on the other hand, is a planned surgical procedure in which an incision is made on a pregnant woman’s belly (either horizontally or vertically) to deliver the baby. This surgery is only performed when natural delivery is not possible. The most important step that arises before the birth of a baby is the preparation of a baby plan. A baby plan includes selecting the best Obstetrician-Gynecologist (OB-GYN) and hospital and choice between normal delivery or cesarean delivery (also called C-section). The ongoing debates over whether to choose a normal delivery or cesarean delivery leaves many confused and tensed. Most of them prefer natural birth over C-section. The lack of adequate information is one of the reasons why women don’t opt for C-sections. To help you choose better, here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of both normal deliveries and C-sections
